With spring now upon us, it’s time to come out of hibernation and explore all that the Quinte region has to offer. Spring is the perfect time to get outdoors, support your local community and have some fun. Here are my top picks of events & activities taking place in the Quinte region this spring:

Bay of Quinte Home Show 2017

From Friday, April 28th to Sunday, April 30th, the Bay of Quinte Home Show will be taking place at Trenton Community Gardens. Learn about the latest products and services to enhance your home, garden, and more from knowledgeable local businesses. Spring is the perfect time to spruce up your home and the Bay of Quinte Home Show can help you do it. To learn more visit their website (Admission is $3).

Come Fly a Kite

On Sunday, April 23rd from noon until 4 PM partake in this fun family event at East Zwick’s Centennial Park in Belleville. The first 100 children will receive free kites, and there will also be kites and refreshments available for purchase. Children aged 5 and up will be able to decorate and fly their own mini kite, as well as participate in face painting and balloon creations. To learn more contact the Kiwanis Club of Belleville.

6th Annual Hike for Hospice

On Sunday, May 7th, 2017 make a trip to Prince Edward County to participate in the 6th Annual Hike for Hospice to raise money for the Community Residential Hospice in Picton. The event will begin at the Prince Edward County Community Centre and will progress down Picton’s Main Street. The Picton Rotary Club will provide a BBQ lunch for hikers, and entertainment will be provided by The Reasons. For more information, or to register, click here.

Beginner to 5k Running Program

Have you ever wanted to learn how to become an accomplished runner? Now’s your chance, with the Beginner to 5k Running Program. The program begins on April 10th and runs every Monday from 5 PM-6 PM until July 10th, at the Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre. This program is designed as an introduction to running for beginners and will help individuals train and compete in a fun 5k marathon at the end of the 12-week training period. Quinte West Hops on the Water

On Saturday, April 22nd from 11 AM until 7 PM come down to Quinte West Hops on the Water, taking place at the Quinte West Farmers’ Market in Trenton. Admission is $20 and attendees will be able to sample local craft beer, wine, and cider and learn about the finest breweries, cider houses and wineries in the region. There will also be live family-friendly entertainment, featured local businesses, food vendors, and special restaurant menus. Tickets are available online here.

Belleville Farmers’ Market

With the return of spring so too comes the return of our beloved Farmers’ Market. Held every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday in historic Market Square, the Belleville Farmers’ Market has been taking place for nearly two centuries. Here you’ll find fresh seasonal produce, and will be supporting local farmers in the region. You’ll also be able to purchase the finest meats, honey, maple syrup, baking, crafts, jewelry and plants in the Quinte region. Click here to learn more.

The Mother of all Craft Shows

On Sunday, May 7th from 10 AM until 4 PM stop by The River Inn in Belleville for the Quinte Regions premiere artisan craft show. The 8th Annual ‘The Mother of all Craft Shows’ showcases over 45 local and regional artisans and artists and their unique and original creations. You will also be able to enjoy a beverage at The River Inn’s licensed bar, listen to live music and enter to win an artisan donated product to benefit a local charity. Barks by the Bay Canine Festival & Tradeshow

Treat your furry friend to a day of festivities on Saturday, May 27th at the Barks by the Bay Canine Festival & Tradeshow. Taking place from 9 AM until 4 PM at Centennial Park in Trenton, this doggie focused festival showcases unique breeds & breeders, canine vendors, training aids and techniques, dog accessories, local veterinarians, local pet stores and groomers.
